Zino
Zino by Davidoff is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 1986 in the designer price tier. It opens with rosewood, lavender, clary sage and bergamot, moves into rose, geranium, jasmine and lily of the valley and dries down to patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla and cedarwood. Expect around 7 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Rosewood Soft, rosy wood. Gentle and slightly floral.
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Clary Sage Softer, sweeter sage with an ambery undertone. Warm and herbal.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Heart
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Geranium Rosy and minty at once. Reads masculine more often than not.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Lily of the Valley Clean, green, dewy floral. Reads as 'fresh laundry' to most people.
Dry-down
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
