Coco Noir
Coco Noir by Chanel is a feminine-leaning eau de parfum from 2012 in the premium price tier. It opens with grapefruit and bergamot, moves into rose, jasmine, narcissus and geranium and dries down to patchouli, sandalwood, vanilla, tonka bean and frankincense. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Grapefruit Bitter, slightly sweaty citrus. More grown-up than lemon.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Heart
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Narcissus Green, hay-like and slightly animalic. Strange and beautiful.
- Geranium Rosy and minty at once. Reads masculine more often than not.
Dry-down
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
- Frankincense Bright, peppery, church-like resin. Lifts and cools a fragrance.
