Héritage
Héritage by Guerlain is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 1992 in the premium price tier. It opens with bergamot, lavender and black pepper, moves into geranium, rose and cinnamon and dries down to sandalwood, vanilla, patchouli and tonka bean. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Black Pepper Dry and prickly. Gives a fragrance grip and a bit of bite.
Heart
- Geranium Rosy and minty at once. Reads masculine more often than not.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Cinnamon Sweet heat. Reads festive, sometimes to a fault.
Dry-down
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
