Emeraude
Emeraude by Coty is a feminine-leaning eau de toilette from 1921 in the budget price tier. It opens with bergamot, lemon and sweet orange, moves into ylang-ylang, rose and jasmine and dries down to vanilla, amber, sandalwood and patchouli. Expect around 7 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Sweet Orange Juicy and cheerful. The friendliest citrus there is.
Heart
- Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
Dry-down
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
