Pour Homme Intense
Pour Homme Intense by Azzaro is a masculine-leaning eau de parfum from 2015 in the designer price tier. It opens with anise, basil, bergamot, lavender, clary sage and lemon, moves into cardamom, patchouli, sandalwood, vetiver, juniper berry and cedarwood and dries down to amber, oakmoss, leather, musk and tonka bean. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Anise Sweet, liquorice-like seed. Cool and slightly medicinal.
- Basil Peppery herb with an aniseed lift. Culinary but wearable.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Clary Sage Softer, sweeter sage with an ambery undertone. Warm and herbal.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
Heart
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- Juniper Berry Gin, basically. Piney, dry and bracing.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
Dry-down
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
