Pour Homme
Pour Homme by Azzaro is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 1978 in the designer price tier. It opens with lavender, anise and bergamot, moves into geranium, clary sage and cardamom and dries down to oakmoss, vetiver, white musk and amber. Expect around 7 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Anise Sweet, liquorice-like seed. Cool and slightly medicinal.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Heart
- Geranium Rosy and minty at once. Reads masculine more often than not.
- Clary Sage Softer, sweeter sage with an ambery undertone. Warm and herbal.
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
Dry-down
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
