Drakkar Noir
Drakkar Noir by Guy Laroche is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 1982 in the budget price tier. It opens with lemon, rosemary and basil, moves into lavender, juniper berry and coriander and dries down to oakmoss, patchouli, cedarwood and leather. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Rosemary Sharp, camphorous herb. Bracing and clean, borders on medicinal.
- Basil Peppery herb with an aniseed lift. Culinary but wearable.
Heart
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Juniper Berry Gin, basically. Piney, dry and bracing.
- Coriander Warm seed spice, slightly citrusy. A quiet workhorse.
Dry-down
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
