Elite
Elite by Floris is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 1979 in the niche price tier. It opens with bergamot, grapefruit, lemon and juniper berry, moves into lavender and bay leaf and dries down to patchouli, vetiver, oakmoss, amber, musk and leather. Expect around 6 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Grapefruit Bitter, slightly sweaty citrus. More grown-up than lemon.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Juniper Berry Gin, basically. Piney, dry and bracing.
Heart
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Bay Leaf Warm, aromatic and slightly sweet. The backbone of classic barbershop scents.
Dry-down
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
