Elle
Elle by Xerjoff is a feminine-leaning parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with bergamot, galbanum, lily of the valley and neroli, moves into bulgarian rose, iris, sambac jasmine and patchouli and dries down to amber, coumarin and musk. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Galbanum Intensely green resin. Smells like snapping a plant stem in half.
- Lily of the Valley Clean, green, dewy floral. Reads as 'fresh laundry' to most people.
- Neroli Distilled orange blossom. Green, soapy and elegant.
Heart
- Bulgarian Rose Fresh, dewy and green. The 'real rose garden' version.
- Iris Cool, powdery, slightly carroty and expensive. The luxury note.
- Sambac Jasmine Greener, more tea-like jasmine. Less indolic than grandiflorum.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
Dry-down
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Coumarin Hay, almond and vanilla in one molecule. The heart of every fougère.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
