Deriva
Deriva by Tiziana Terenzi is an unisex extrait de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with bergamot, lemon, lavender, cardamom and pineapple, moves into geranium, gardenia, pink pepper, patchouli and raspberry and dries down to tobacco leaf, vanilla, tonka bean, sandalwood and rosewood. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
- Pineapple Tangy, boozy and tropical. Loud and hard to hide.
Heart
- Geranium Rosy and minty at once. Reads masculine more often than not.
- Gardenia Creamy white floral with a mushroomy edge. Lush and old-Hollywood.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Raspberry Tart, jammy and slightly fuzzy. Very popular in modern sweet scents.
Dry-down
- Tobacco Leaf Greener and drier than cured tobacco. Hay-like.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Rosewood Soft, rosy wood. Gentle and slightly floral.
