Blue
Blue by Nautica is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 2003 in the budget price tier. It opens with pineapple, bergamot and lemon, moves into jasmine, lily of the valley and sage and dries down to white musk, cedarwood and oakmoss. Expect around 5 hours of wear, and it projects softly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Pineapple Tangy, boozy and tropical. Loud and hard to hide.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
Heart
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Lily of the Valley Clean, green, dewy floral. Reads as 'fresh laundry' to most people.
- Sage Dry, herbal and slightly bitter. Adds a grown-up, aromatic edge.
Dry-down
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
