Aoud Leather

Aoud Leather by Montale is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with bergamot, lemon, nutmeg, black pepper and rosemary, moves into rose, violet, leather and cedarwood and dries down to guaiac wood, white musk and oakmoss. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.

Opening

Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
Nutmeg Warm, woody and slightly sweet. Cosy without being gourmand.
Black Pepper Dry and prickly. Gives a fragrance grip and a bit of bite.
Rosemary Sharp, camphorous herb. Bracing and clean, borders on medicinal.

Heart

Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
Violet Powdery, sweet and a bit retro. Parma Violets in flower form.
Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.

Dry-down

Guaiac Wood Smoky, tarry and slightly sweet. Like a bonfire and roses.
White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
