Azuree
Azuree by Estée Lauder is a feminine-leaning eau de parfum from 1969 in the designer price tier. It opens with bergamot, artemisia and gardenia, moves into jasmine, rose and clary sage and dries down to oakmoss, leather, patchouli and vetiver. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Artemisia Bitter and silvery-herbal. Wormwood, the backbone of a fougère.
- Gardenia Creamy white floral with a mushroomy edge. Lush and old-Hollywood.
Heart
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Clary Sage Softer, sweeter sage with an ambery undertone. Warm and herbal.
Dry-down
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
