Escentric 04 by Escentric Molecules is an unisex eau de toilette in the premium price tier. It opens with grapefruit, cannabis, bergamot, juniper berry and pink pepper, moves into freesia, osmanthus, iris and rose and dries down to sandalwood, mastic, labdanum, iso e super, muscone and ambroxan. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects softly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Grapefruit Bitter, slightly sweaty citrus. More grown-up than lemon.
- Cannabis Green, resinous and skunky at the edges. Used for shock more than realism.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Juniper Berry Gin, basically. Piney, dry and bracing.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
Heart
- Freesia Crisp, slightly peppery floral. Clean and a bit synthetic in a good way.
- Osmanthus Apricot-and-leather floral. Unusual, warm and very wearable.
- Iris Cool, powdery, slightly carroty and expensive. The luxury note.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
Dry-down
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Mastic Resinous pine-and-lemon. The chew of Greek gum.
- Labdanum Sticky, leathery resin. Dark honey and old books.
- Iso E Super Velvety, transparent wood that fades in and out. Half the market runs on it.
- Muscone Rich, warm, powdery musk. Rounder than the white musks.
- Ambroxan Clean, mineral, skin-like warmth. The engine behind most modern 'beast mode' scents.
