Chloé
Chloé by Chloé is a feminine-leaning eau de parfum from 1975 in the designer price tier. It opens with honeysuckle, aldehydes and orange blossom, moves into tuberose, jasmine, rose and ylang-ylang and dries down to sandalwood, amber, musk and oakmoss. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Honeysuckle Sweet, nectar-like and slightly green. Summer hedgerow.
- Aldehydes Fizzy, soapy, slightly waxy. The 'sparkle' at the top of Chanel No. 5.
- Orange Blossom Sweet, soapy and sunny. Neroli's warmer sibling.
Heart
- Tuberose Creamy, waxy and enormous. The loudest white flower.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
Dry-down
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
