Giorgio
Giorgio by Giorgio Beverly Hills is a feminine-leaning eau de toilette from 1981 in the budget price tier. It opens with orange blossom, bergamot and aldehydes, moves into tuberose, jasmine, gardenia and ylang-ylang and dries down to sandalwood, patchouli, white musk and amber. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Orange Blossom Sweet, soapy and sunny. Neroli's warmer sibling.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Aldehydes Fizzy, soapy, slightly waxy. The 'sparkle' at the top of Chanel No. 5.
Heart
- Tuberose Creamy, waxy and enormous. The loudest white flower.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Gardenia Creamy white floral with a mushroomy edge. Lush and old-Hollywood.
- Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
Dry-down
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
