Amarige
Amarige by Givenchy is a feminine-leaning eau de toilette from 1991 in the designer price tier. It opens with plum, orange blossom and mandarin, moves into tuberose, mimosa, gardenia and ylang-ylang and dries down to sandalwood, vanilla, white musk and amber. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Plum Dark, wine-like and slightly stewed. Autumnal.
- Orange Blossom Sweet, soapy and sunny. Neroli's warmer sibling.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
Heart
- Tuberose Creamy, waxy and enormous. The loudest white flower.
- Mimosa Soft, powdery, honeyed yellow flower. Gentle and comforting.
- Gardenia Creamy white floral with a mushroomy edge. Lush and old-Hollywood.
- Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
Dry-down
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
