Aramis
Aramis by Aramis is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 1965 in the budget price tier. It opens with bergamot, clary sage and cumin, moves into jasmine, patchouli and carnation and dries down to leather, oakmoss, castoreum and sandalwood. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Clary Sage Softer, sweeter sage with an ambery undertone. Warm and herbal.
- Cumin Warm, spicy and unmistakably sweaty. Divides rooms.
Heart
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Carnation Spicy, clove-like floral. Old-school and a bit peppery.
Dry-down
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Castoreum Leathery, smoky and warm. Adds depth and a bit of danger.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
