Elsewhere
Elsewhere by Amouage is an unisex eau de parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with honey, mandarin, grapefruit, mango, pomegranate and apricot, moves into black tea, coffee and davana and dries down to tonka bean, vanilla, cedarwood, labdanum, cypriol and vetiver. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Honey Sweet, waxy and slightly animalic. Can smell dirty in large doses.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
- Grapefruit Bitter, slightly sweaty citrus. More grown-up than lemon.
- Mango Thick, sweet and tropical. Creamy rather than sharp.
- Pomegranate Tart, juicy and jewel-red. Sharper than most berries.
- Apricot Warm, jammy stone fruit. Often hiding inside osmanthus.
Heart
- Black Tea Dry, tannic and smoky. More astringent than green tea.
- Coffee Roasted, bitter and dark. Adds edge to sweet fragrances.
- Davana Odd and gorgeous — apricot jam, rum and dried herbs at once.
Dry-down
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Labdanum Sticky, leathery resin. Dark honey and old books.
- Cypriol Also called nagarmotha. Smoky, leathery, earthy — a vetiver relative.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
