Eragon
Eragon by Parfums de Marly is a masculine-leaning eau de parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with bergamot, pink pepper, cardamom and mandarin, moves into cinnamon, davana and cypriol and dries down to leather, tonka bean, vanilla and patchouli. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
Heart
- Cinnamon Sweet heat. Reads festive, sometimes to a fault.
- Davana Odd and gorgeous — apricot jam, rum and dried herbs at once.
- Cypriol Also called nagarmotha. Smoky, leathery, earthy — a vetiver relative.
Dry-down
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
