Yvresse
Yvresse by Yves Saint Laurent is a feminine-leaning eau de toilette from 1993 in the designer price tier. It opens with peach, mint, anise and lychee, moves into rose, violet and nutmeg and dries down to oakmoss, patchouli and vetiver. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Peach Fuzzy, warm and slightly creamy. Soft rather than sharp.
- Mint Cold and tingly. Great in small doses, toothpaste in large ones.
- Anise Sweet, liquorice-like seed. Cool and slightly medicinal.
- Lychee Rosy, watery and delicate. Sweet without being heavy.
Heart
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Violet Powdery, sweet and a bit retro. Parma Violets in flower form.
- Nutmeg Warm, woody and slightly sweet. Cosy without being gourmand.
Dry-down
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
