Layton
Layton by Parfums de Marly is a masculine-leaning eau de parfum from 2016 in the luxury price tier. It opens with apple, lavender and bergamot, moves into violet, geranium and jasmine and dries down to vanilla, sandalwood, black pepper and guaiac wood. Expect around 11 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Apple Crunchy and tart or soft and red, depending on the treatment.
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Heart
- Violet Powdery, sweet and a bit retro. Parma Violets in flower form.
- Geranium Rosy and minty at once. Reads masculine more often than not.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
Dry-down
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Black Pepper Dry and prickly. Gives a fragrance grip and a bit of bite.
- Guaiac Wood Smoky, tarry and slightly sweet. Like a bonfire and roses.
