Detour Noir

Detour Noir by Al Haramain is an unisex eau de parfum from 2022 in the budget price tier. It opens with apple, lavender, violet and jasmine, moves into vanilla, patchouli, mandarin and bergamot and dries down to cardamom, geranium, sandalwood, black pepper and guaiac wood. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.

Opening

Apple Crunchy and tart or soft and red, depending on the treatment.
Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
Violet Powdery, sweet and a bit retro. Parma Violets in flower form.
Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.

Heart

Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.

Dry-down

Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
Geranium Rosy and minty at once. Reads masculine more often than not.
Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
Black Pepper Dry and prickly. Gives a fragrance grip and a bit of bite.
Guaiac Wood Smoky, tarry and slightly sweet. Like a bonfire and roses.
