Kashmir
Kashmir by Ormonde Jayne is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with bergamot, cardamom, coriander, saffron and pink pepper, moves into jasmine, iris, rose, poppy and pine and dries down to cedarwood, sandalwood, cashmeran, benzoin, vanilla and patchouli. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
- Coriander Warm seed spice, slightly citrusy. A quiet workhorse.
- Saffron Leathery, medicinal and slightly metallic. The signature of modern niche.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
Heart
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Iris Cool, powdery, slightly carroty and expensive. The luxury note.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Poppy Soft, powdery and faintly green. Poppy barely smells in nature, so perfumers build an impression of it.
- Pine Sappy and bracing. Straightforwardly outdoorsy.
Dry-down
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Cashmeran Musky, woody and slightly spicy. Velvety and very persistent.
- Benzoin Sweet balsamic resin. Vanilla-adjacent but drier.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
