Blue Amber
Blue Amber by Montale is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with coriander, lavender, nutmeg and bergamot, moves into patchouli, geranium, vetiver and thyme and dries down to vanilla, labdanum and musk. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Coriander Warm seed spice, slightly citrusy. A quiet workhorse.
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Nutmeg Warm, woody and slightly sweet. Cosy without being gourmand.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Heart
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Geranium Rosy and minty at once. Reads masculine more often than not.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- Thyme Dry, sharp kitchen herb. Bracing and slightly antiseptic.
Dry-down
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Labdanum Sticky, leathery resin. Dark honey and old books.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
