Tango
Tango by Masque Milano is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with bergamot, black pepper and cardamom, moves into sambac jasmine, damask rose, cumin and patchouli and dries down to vanilla, tonka bean, coumarin, amber, leather and benzoin. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Black Pepper Dry and prickly. Gives a fragrance grip and a bit of bite.
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
Heart
- Sambac Jasmine Greener, more tea-like jasmine. Less indolic than grandiflorum.
- Damask Rose The rich, jammy, honeyed rose. Deep and slightly wine-like.
- Cumin Warm, spicy and unmistakably sweaty. Divides rooms.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
Dry-down
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
- Coumarin Hay, almond and vanilla in one molecule. The heart of every fougère.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
- Benzoin Sweet balsamic resin. Vanilla-adjacent but drier.
