Faris
Faris by Kajal is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with apple, sweet orange, lavender, bergamot, lemon and juniper berry, moves into rose, jasmine, coriander, nutmeg and clove and dries down to amber, sandalwood, tonka bean, patchouli and vetiver. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Apple Crunchy and tart or soft and red, depending on the treatment.
- Sweet Orange Juicy and cheerful. The friendliest citrus there is.
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Juniper Berry Gin, basically. Piney, dry and bracing.
Heart
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Coriander Warm seed spice, slightly citrusy. A quiet workhorse.
- Nutmeg Warm, woody and slightly sweet. Cosy without being gourmand.
- Clove Hot, dry and dental. Powerful — a little goes a long way.
Dry-down
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
