Ultra Male

Ultra Male by Jean Paul Gaultier is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 2015 in the designer price tier. It opens with pear, blackcurrant and bergamot, moves into lavender, cinnamon and clove and dries down to vanilla, tonka bean, amber and patchouli. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.

Opening

Pear Crisp, watery and green-sweet. Clean and modern.
Blackcurrant Tart, dark and slightly catty. Adds bite to florals.
Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.

Heart

Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
Cinnamon Sweet heat. Reads festive, sometimes to a fault.
Clove Hot, dry and dental. Powerful — a little goes a long way.

Dry-down

Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
