24 Faubourg
24 Faubourg by Hermès is a feminine-leaning eau de parfum from 1995 in the premium price tier. It opens with orange blossom, bergamot, hyacinth and peach, moves into jasmine, gardenia, tiare, iris and ylang-ylang and dries down to sandalwood, vanilla, amber and patchouli. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Orange Blossom Sweet, soapy and sunny. Neroli's warmer sibling.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Hyacinth Cold, green, watery floral. Smells like early spring.
- Peach Fuzzy, warm and slightly creamy. Soft rather than sharp.
Heart
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Gardenia Creamy white floral with a mushroomy edge. Lush and old-Hollywood.
- Tiare Creamy tropical white flower. Suntan lotion, in the best way.
- Iris Cool, powdery, slightly carroty and expensive. The luxury note.
- Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
Dry-down
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
