Nahéma
Nahéma by Guerlain is a feminine-leaning parfum from 1979 in the premium price tier. It opens with bergamot, peach and galbanum, moves into bulgarian rose, damask rose, ylang-ylang, jasmine and lilac and dries down to vanilla, sandalwood, benzoin, peru balsam and vetiver. Expect around 11 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Peach Fuzzy, warm and slightly creamy. Soft rather than sharp.
- Galbanum Intensely green resin. Smells like snapping a plant stem in half.
Heart
- Bulgarian Rose Fresh, dewy and green. The 'real rose garden' version.
- Damask Rose The rich, jammy, honeyed rose. Deep and slightly wine-like.
- Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Lilac Cool, powdery spring floral. Nostalgic and slightly soapy.
Dry-down
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Benzoin Sweet balsamic resin. Vanilla-adjacent but drier.
- Peru Balsam Vanilla and cinnamon resin. Deep and syrupy.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
