Allure
Allure by Chanel is a feminine-leaning eau de parfum from 1996 in the premium price tier. It opens with bergamot, mandarin and peach, moves into damask rose, jasmine and magnolia and dries down to vanilla, sandalwood and white musk. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
- Peach Fuzzy, warm and slightly creamy. Soft rather than sharp.
Heart
- Damask Rose The rich, jammy, honeyed rose. Deep and slightly wine-like.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Magnolia Lemony white floral. Bright and clean rather than heavy.
Dry-down
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
