Xeryus Rouge
Xeryus Rouge by Givenchy is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 1995 in the designer price tier. It opens with cactus, red berries, pimento and mandarin, moves into carnation, geranium, juniper berry and rose and dries down to cedarwood, sandalwood, amber and musk. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Cactus Cool, watery and faintly bitter green. Desert-fresh.
- Red Berries Generic jammy berry blend. Bright, sweet and crowd-pleasing.
- Pimento Allspice — clove, cinnamon and nutmeg at once. Hot and rounded.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
Heart
- Carnation Spicy, clove-like floral. Old-school and a bit peppery.
- Geranium Rosy and minty at once. Reads masculine more often than not.
- Juniper Berry Gin, basically. Piney, dry and bracing.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
Dry-down
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
