Vanilla Edesia
Vanilla Edesia by Electimuss is an unisex extrait de parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with bergamot, mandarin, bitter almond, heliotrope, pink pepper and frankincense, moves into cinnamon, cumin, coriander, rose, gurjun balsam and ylang-ylang and dries down to vanilla, patchouli, cypriol, haitian vetiver, sandalwood and virginia cedarwood. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
- Bitter Almond Marzipan with a sharp, cherry-stone edge. Sweet but slightly medicinal.
- Heliotrope Almond, vanilla and powder. Smells like marzipan and old-fashioned makeup.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
- Frankincense Bright, peppery, church-like resin. Lifts and cools a fragrance.
Heart
- Cinnamon Sweet heat. Reads festive, sometimes to a fault.
- Cumin Warm, spicy and unmistakably sweaty. Divides rooms.
- Coriander Warm seed spice, slightly citrusy. A quiet workhorse.
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Gurjun Balsam A woody resin from Southeast Asia. Smooth, faintly peppery, and it helps a scent last.
- Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
Dry-down
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Cypriol Also called nagarmotha. Smoky, leathery, earthy — a vetiver relative.
- Haitian Vetiver Cleaner, smokier vetiver with a grapefruit lift. Less earthy than Javan.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Virginia Cedarwood The pencil-shaving one specifically. Dry, sharp and slightly sweet.
