Nocturnality
Nocturnality by Arquiste is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with rubber, papyrus, black pepper and hyraceum, moves into rose and leather and dries down to patchouli, cedarwood, civet, castoreum and styrax. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Rubber Sharp, industrial, tyre-like. Used as a shock against something soft.
- Papyrus Dry, smoky, papery wood. Vetiver's quieter cousin.
- Black Pepper Dry and prickly. Gives a fragrance grip and a bit of bite.
- Hyraceum Fermented, earthy and deep. Surprisingly rounded once diluted.
Heart
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
Dry-down
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Civet Sharp, faecal and intense on its own. In trace amounts it makes florals glow.
- Castoreum Leathery, smoky and warm. Adds depth and a bit of danger.
- Styrax Smoky, leathery balsam. Slightly rubbery and dark.
