Acqua di Giò
Acqua di Giò by Giorgio Armani is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 1996 in the designer price tier. It opens with lime, lemon, bergamot and jasmine, moves into sea salt, calone and persimmon and dries down to white musk, cedarwood, oakmoss and patchouli. Expect around 6 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Lime Sharper and greener than lemon. Reads a bit tropical, a bit barbershop.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
Heart
- Sea Salt Mineral and dry. Skin after a day at the beach.
- Calone The melon-and-ocean molecule behind every 90s aquatic. Instantly dates a scent.
- Persimmon Soft, honeyed orange fruit. Mellow and slightly floral.
Dry-down
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
