Remain by Amouage is an unisex eau de parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with frankincense, mandarin, pimento and bergamot, moves into lily, ylang-ylang, juniper berry and jasmine and dries down to ambergris, guaiac wood, patchouli, vanilla and tonka bean. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.

Opening

Frankincense Bright, peppery, church-like resin. Lifts and cools a fragrance.
Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
Pimento Allspice — clove, cinnamon and nutmeg at once. Hot and rounded.
Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.

Heart

Lily A big, creamy, slightly spicy white flower. The kind that fills a room.
Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
Juniper Berry Gin, basically. Piney, dry and bracing.
Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.

Dry-down

Ambergris Salty, animal, sun-warmed skin. Marine and musky at once.
Guaiac Wood Smoky, tarry and slightly sweet. Like a bonfire and roses.
Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
