Reasons
Reasons by Amouage is an unisex eau de parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with cardamom, hazelnut, cinnamon and pink pepper, moves into patchouli, pine, cashmeran, amber, cypriol and davana and dries down to benzoin, labdanum, sandalwood, cedarwood, vetiver and myrrh. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
- Hazelnut Roasted, buttery and nutty. Warm and dessert-like.
- Cinnamon Sweet heat. Reads festive, sometimes to a fault.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
Heart
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Pine Sappy and bracing. Straightforwardly outdoorsy.
- Cashmeran Musky, woody and slightly spicy. Velvety and very persistent.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Cypriol Also called nagarmotha. Smoky, leathery, earthy — a vetiver relative.
- Davana Odd and gorgeous — apricot jam, rum and dried herbs at once.
Dry-down
- Benzoin Sweet balsamic resin. Vanilla-adjacent but drier.
- Labdanum Sticky, leathery resin. Dark honey and old books.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- Myrrh Bitter, smoky resin. Ancient-smelling and slightly cool.
