Opus XIV Royal Tobacco

Opus XIV Royal Tobacco by Amouage is an unisex eau de parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with frankincense, elemi, cardamom, anise, basil and bergamot, moves into tobacco, licorice, lavender, plum, orange blossom and osmanthus and dries down to frankincense, peru balsam, benzoin, labdanum, myrrh and birch tar. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.

Opening

Frankincense Bright, peppery, church-like resin. Lifts and cools a fragrance.
Elemi Peppery resin with a lemon-pine lift. Bright and dry.
Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
Anise Sweet, liquorice-like seed. Cool and slightly medicinal.
Basil Peppery herb with an aniseed lift. Culinary but wearable.
Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.

Tobacco Sweet, dried and honeyed. Nothing like a cigarette.
Licorice Sweet anise with a dark, salty edge. Divisive and distinctive.

Myrrh Bitter, smoky resin. Ancient-smelling and slightly cool.
Birch Tar Smoked, tarry and campfire-like. The classic way to build leather.
