Decision 42

Decision 42 by Amouage is an unisex eau de parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with pink pepper, bergamot, cardamom, neroli and cinnamon, moves into frankincense, juniper berry, myrrh, sandalwood and birch tar and dries down to patchouli, cedarwood, vanilla and labdanum. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.

Opening

Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
Neroli Distilled orange blossom. Green, soapy and elegant.
Cinnamon Sweet heat. Reads festive, sometimes to a fault.

Heart

Frankincense Bright, peppery, church-like resin. Lifts and cools a fragrance.
Juniper Berry Gin, basically. Piney, dry and bracing.
Myrrh Bitter, smoky resin. Ancient-smelling and slightly cool.
Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
Birch Tar Smoked, tarry and campfire-like. The classic way to build leather.

Dry-down

Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
Labdanum Sticky, leathery resin. Dark honey and old books.
