Lyric Man
Lyric Man by Amouage is a masculine-leaning eau de parfum from 2008 in the luxury price tier. It opens with bergamot, lime, pink pepper and nutmeg, moves into rose, angelica, cinnamon and geranium and dries down to frankincense, sandalwood, oud, vetiver and musk. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Lime Sharper and greener than lemon. Reads a bit tropical, a bit barbershop.
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
- Nutmeg Warm, woody and slightly sweet. Cosy without being gourmand.
Heart
- Rose Can be jammy, green, peppery or soapy depending on the type. Not one smell.
- Angelica Musky, herbal root. Earthy and a bit strange.
- Cinnamon Sweet heat. Reads festive, sometimes to a fault.
- Geranium Rosy and minty at once. Reads masculine more often than not.
Dry-down
- Frankincense Bright, peppery, church-like resin. Lifts and cools a fragrance.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Oud Resinous, medicinal, barnyard-adjacent wood. The most expensive note in perfumery.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
