Citrus fragrances
Bright and zesty — lemon, bergamot, grapefruit. Wakes you up.
What they smell like
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Bitter Orange Marmalade without the sugar. Sour and slightly medicinal.
- Blood Orange Orange with a red-fruit edge. Richer and slightly jammy.
- Calamansi Filipino lime. Tart, floral and unusually punchy.
- Citron Thick-skinned citrus, more zest than juice. Waxy and bright.
- Citrus Notes A mix of citrus peel with no single fruit named.
- Clementine Small, sweet and a bit candied. Very easy to wear.
- Grapefruit Bitter, slightly sweaty citrus. More grown-up than lemon.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Lemon Verbena Lemon crossed with crushed herbs. Smells like expensive soap.
- Lemongrass Sharp, grassy lemon. Bright and clean, with a herbal edge.
- Lime Sharper and greener than lemon. Reads a bit tropical, a bit barbershop.
- Litsea Cubeba Also called May Chang. Sharp, lemon-sherbet brightness from a small peppery berry.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
- Neroli Distilled orange blossom. Green, soapy and elegant.
- Petitgrain Bitter twigs and leaves of the orange tree. Dry and a little green.
- Pomelo Giant, mild grapefruit. Watery and refreshing.
- Sweet Orange Juicy and cheerful. The friendliest citrus there is.
- Yuzu Japanese citrus — like grapefruit and mandarin crossed. Crisp and clean.
