Eros
Eros by Versace is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 2012 in the designer price tier. It opens with mint, green apple and lemon, moves into tonka bean, geranium and ambroxan and dries down to vanilla, vetiver, oakmoss and virginia cedarwood. Expect around 8 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Mint Cold and tingly. Great in small doses, toothpaste in large ones.
- Green Apple Tart, crunchy and sharp. Cleaner and cooler than red apple.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
Heart
- Tonka Bean Almond, hay and vanilla in one. Warm and slightly nutty.
- Geranium Rosy and minty at once. Reads masculine more often than not.
- Ambroxan Clean, mineral, skin-like warmth. The engine behind most modern 'beast mode' scents.
Dry-down
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Virginia Cedarwood The pencil-shaving one specifically. Dry, sharp and slightly sweet.
