Jasmin Rouge
Jasmin Rouge by Tom Ford is a feminine-leaning eau de parfum from 2013 in the luxury price tier. It opens with bergamot, mandarin and clary sage, moves into sambac jasmine, ylang-ylang and clove and dries down to amber, vanilla, sandalwood and leather. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
- Clary Sage Softer, sweeter sage with an ambery undertone. Warm and herbal.
Heart
- Sambac Jasmine Greener, more tea-like jasmine. Less indolic than grandiflorum.
- Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
- Clove Hot, dry and dental. Powerful — a little goes a long way.
Dry-down
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Vanilla Sweet, creamy and warm. The most comforting note in perfumery.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
