Oud For Love
Oud For Love by The Different Company is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with aldehydes, whiskey, coriander, saffron and cumin, moves into tuberose, sandalwood, ylang-ylang, iris and clove and dries down to oud, immortelle, haitian vetiver, patchouli, musk and castoreum. Expect around 7 hours of wear, and it projects at a moderate level.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Aldehydes Fizzy, soapy, slightly waxy. The 'sparkle' at the top of Chanel No. 5.
- Whiskey Boozy, oaky, a little smoky. Warmth you can almost taste.
- Coriander Warm seed spice, slightly citrusy. A quiet workhorse.
- Saffron Leathery, medicinal and slightly metallic. The signature of modern niche.
- Cumin Warm, spicy and unmistakably sweaty. Divides rooms.
Heart
- Tuberose Creamy, waxy and enormous. The loudest white flower.
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
- Iris Cool, powdery, slightly carroty and expensive. The luxury note.
- Clove Hot, dry and dental. Powerful — a little goes a long way.
Dry-down
- Oud Resinous, medicinal, barnyard-adjacent wood. The most expensive note in perfumery.
- Immortelle Maple syrup, curry and hay. Genuinely strange and very distinctive.
- Haitian Vetiver Cleaner, smokier vetiver with a grapefruit lift. Less earthy than Javan.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
- Musk Warm, skin-like and slightly sweet. Makes a fragrance feel like you.
- Castoreum Leathery, smoky and warm. Adds depth and a bit of danger.
