Turandot

Turandot by Roja Parfums is an unisex parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with aldehydes, lemon, bergamot and petitgrain, moves into rose de mai, orange blossom, jasmine, magnolia, ylang-ylang and heliotrope and dries down to oakmoss, patchouli, cashmere wood, coffee, benzoin and iris. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.

Opening

Aldehydes Fizzy, soapy, slightly waxy. The 'sparkle' at the top of Chanel No. 5.
Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
Petitgrain Bitter twigs and leaves of the orange tree. Dry and a little green.

Heart

Rose de Mai Softer, honeyed May rose. Expensive and unmistakably natural.
Orange Blossom Sweet, soapy and sunny. Neroli's warmer sibling.
Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
Magnolia Lemony white floral. Bright and clean rather than heavy.
Ylang-Ylang Banana-custard floral. Rich, tropical and slightly rubbery.
Heliotrope Almond, vanilla and powder. Smells like marzipan and old-fashioned makeup.

Dry-down

Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
Cashmere Wood Soft, fuzzy, slightly musky wood. Adds a blurred warmth.
Coffee Roasted, bitter and dark. Adds edge to sweet fragrances.
Benzoin Sweet balsamic resin. Vanilla-adjacent but drier.
Iris Cool, powdery, slightly carroty and expensive. The luxury note.
