Scandal Pour Homme
Scandal Pour Homme by Roja Parfums is a masculine-leaning eau de parfum in the luxury price tier. It opens with lemon, bergamot, petitgrain, spearmint, lavender and basil, moves into lily of the valley, rose de mai, jasmine and violet and dries down to rhubarb, cardamom, clove, nutmeg, oakmoss and patchouli. Expect around 9 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Petitgrain Bitter twigs and leaves of the orange tree. Dry and a little green.
- Spearmint Softer, sweeter mint. Less medicinal than peppermint.
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
- Basil Peppery herb with an aniseed lift. Culinary but wearable.
Heart
- Lily of the Valley Clean, green, dewy floral. Reads as 'fresh laundry' to most people.
- Rose de Mai Softer, honeyed May rose. Expensive and unmistakably natural.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Violet Powdery, sweet and a bit retro. Parma Violets in flower form.
Dry-down
- Rhubarb Tart, pink and green at once. Sour fruit with a stalky edge.
- Cardamom Cool, aromatic spice with a eucalyptus lift. Smells expensive.
- Clove Hot, dry and dental. Powerful — a little goes a long way.
- Nutmeg Warm, woody and slightly sweet. Cosy without being gourmand.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
