Fracas
Fracas by Robert Piguet is a feminine-leaning eau de parfum from 1948 in the luxury price tier. It opens with bergamot, mandarin and hyacinth, moves into tuberose, gardenia, jasmine and orange blossom and dries down to sandalwood, white musk, oakmoss and vetiver. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
- Hyacinth Cold, green, watery floral. Smells like early spring.
Heart
- Tuberose Creamy, waxy and enormous. The loudest white flower.
- Gardenia Creamy white floral with a mushroomy edge. Lush and old-Hollywood.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
- Orange Blossom Sweet, soapy and sunny. Neroli's warmer sibling.
Dry-down
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- White Musk Clean, soft, laundry-like. The 'smells like nothing but better' note.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Vetiver Dry, earthy, smoky grass root. Smells like soil and citrus peel.
