Invictus
Invictus by Paco Rabanne is a masculine-leaning eau de toilette from 2013 in the designer price tier. It opens with grapefruit, mandarin and sea salt, moves into bay leaf and jasmine and dries down to ambergris, guaiac wood, oakmoss and patchouli. Expect around 7 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Grapefruit Bitter, slightly sweaty citrus. More grown-up than lemon.
- Mandarin Soft, sweet, almost powdery citrus. Gentler than orange.
- Sea Salt Mineral and dry. Skin after a day at the beach.
Heart
- Bay Leaf Warm, aromatic and slightly sweet. The backbone of classic barbershop scents.
- Jasmine Heady, sweet and slightly animal underneath. Rarely subtle.
Dry-down
- Ambergris Salty, animal, sun-warmed skin. Marine and musky at once.
- Guaiac Wood Smoky, tarry and slightly sweet. Like a bonfire and roses.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
