Shinanay
Shinanay by Nishane is an unisex extrait de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with aldehydes, blood orange, elemi and galbanum, moves into gardenia, tuberose, magnolia, lily of the valley and mastic and dries down to sandalwood, civet, cedarwood, opoponax, oakmoss and benzoin. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Aldehydes Fizzy, soapy, slightly waxy. The 'sparkle' at the top of Chanel No. 5.
- Blood Orange Orange with a red-fruit edge. Richer and slightly jammy.
- Elemi Peppery resin with a lemon-pine lift. Bright and dry.
- Galbanum Intensely green resin. Smells like snapping a plant stem in half.
Heart
- Gardenia Creamy white floral with a mushroomy edge. Lush and old-Hollywood.
- Tuberose Creamy, waxy and enormous. The loudest white flower.
- Magnolia Lemony white floral. Bright and clean rather than heavy.
- Lily of the Valley Clean, green, dewy floral. Reads as 'fresh laundry' to most people.
- Mastic Resinous pine-and-lemon. The chew of Greek gum.
Dry-down
- Sandalwood Creamy, milky wood. Soft and almost edible.
- Civet Sharp, faecal and intense on its own. In trace amounts it makes florals glow.
- Cedarwood Dry, pencil-shaving woodiness. Clean and structural.
- Opoponax Sweet myrrh. Balsamic, warm and slightly medicinal.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Benzoin Sweet balsamic resin. Vanilla-adjacent but drier.
