Oudyssee
Oudyssee by Montale is an unisex eau de parfum in the niche price tier. It opens with pink pepper, black pepper, bergamot, lemon, sage and lavender, moves into oud, leather, ginger, amber and patchouli and dries down to mate, oakmoss and ambergris. Expect around 10 hours of wear, and it projects very strongly.
Notes, explained
Opening
- Pink Pepper Fizzy, rosy and bright. Adds sparkle without heat.
- Black Pepper Dry and prickly. Gives a fragrance grip and a bit of bite.
- Bergamot Sharp citrus with a faint bitter edge. The opening of about half of all men's fragrances.
- Lemon Clean, sour, instantly recognisable. Bright but burns off fast.
- Sage Dry, herbal and slightly bitter. Adds a grown-up, aromatic edge.
- Lavender Herbal, clean, slightly medicinal. Barbershop in one note.
Heart
- Oud Resinous, medicinal, barnyard-adjacent wood. The most expensive note in perfumery.
- Leather Smoky, dry and a bit animal. Can be a new jacket or an old saddle.
- Ginger Warm, zesty and slightly soapy. Bridges citrus and spice.
- Amber Warm, golden and resinous. Not a real material — a blend that glows.
- Patchouli Damp earth and dark chocolate. Either you love it or it's your least favourite note.
Dry-down
- Mate Dry, smoky, bitter green tea. Toasted rather than fresh.
- Oakmoss Damp forest floor. Bitter, green and the backbone of every chypre.
- Ambergris Salty, animal, sun-warmed skin. Marine and musky at once.
